Are all Xboxes REALLY loud?

Is it normal that my xbox is really loud? I keep my Xbox in a cabinet (Which I keep open when I play it, so it doesn't overheat), but there's no opening in the back. When I turn it on, it's only partially loud. But when I connect it to live, it gets REALLY loud. I don't know if it's anything bad, but, do all xbox fans make extremely loud noises? Also, the games I play are all on my hard drive. So, its not the disc drive -- it's just the fan.
Also, anyone have any suggestions to quiet it down?

put something under it so all the vents are exposed and maybe blow a fan right on it, mine is one of the first gens and it's so effin loud, even with a headset (astro a40's) i can still hear it...

My xbox that I play on all the time is one of the first ones to roll off the assembly line so its really loud and it doesnt help that its in a bar and has all that nicotine and tar built up inside of it lol. My other one that I don't play that much isnt loud at all in fact its the most quiet xbox ive heard lol.

Mine is really quiet. But the games the I always played I have installed. Plus my xbox is on top of my stand in a wide open space.

My Elite only really makes noise when I play a disc. The drive can be pretty loud when it's spinning. My friend's launch box does seem like it was louder. He recently traded it in and bought the RE5 system bundle, which is no louder than my Elite.
I think it's just because you have it in a cabinet that has no openings except for the front where the door is. All of the noise would bounce off of the inner walls and become louder to you. There might not be a problem, but you should try moving it out of the cabinet one day to see how loud it sounds in the open.

My 360 is one of the first made, and it's REALLY LOUD. Evol's Elite, I can't comment on because it's been dead since before I got here, but the arcade he got to replace the elite is very quiet.
If you think it's too loud, how about duct taping pillows all around it?

whats wrong with his Elite? I'm looking for one and if the problem isnt too bad I'llbe happy to get it off his hands
I got the newer arcade model and its sorta loud and I have it in an open space

My first Xbox that lasted me two years was back from back in Dec 06 and that lasted me until a couple months ago but it was really quiet and even the one I have now is super quite. I have my xbox on a stand that is open on all 4 sides all of the time..and I usually dust it once a week!
