So for the last two days my xbox has started the day not reading discs. It's odd cause after about 30 mins of being powered on the problem goes away for that day. I played games on it all day yesterday off and on after about 30 mins of "open tray" every time I put a disc in. This morning the same thing is happening. What weird is even after the problem stops for the day I can power it down for 2-3 hours and there will be no issue for the rest of that day. It seems to only be overnight that the issue resurfaces. Any advice?

Your disk reader is going out. The same thing happened to me a few years ago. I had to send it in to the same place that takes care of the red ring flu. It cost me $100.00.

Same thing happened to my elite a few months ago. Microsoft only warranties the box' for Red Rings of Death, otherwise you are screwed and they will rip you off. If my 8th 360 goes out I will probably just quit playing xbox games.

You're fighting a losing battle, its better to either figure out a way to RROD it or trade it in hoping the system doesn't go screwy during the trade in process.

See my system does something similar. It won't open up for about 30 minutes. After that it's perfectly fine. I just don't see justifying spending 100 bucks in when it works perfectly fine.

Because in the future it will not work just fine, it will be broken and sadfaced, then instead of paying the 100 dollars you'd have to spend 200-300 dollars.

Same happened to my son's old 360. It was the motor that spins the disc. I got it fixed locally for $35 at a local comic shop that also does games and such.

This happened to Brie's old 360, I tried to take it apart to see if the magnet had come loose, but I could not get the case apart, even after popping all the little clippies. I'm sure I'll try again at some point, but it was annoying as hell.
