360 choice- pros and cons
05/26/10 1:00 am | #1
because im getting the whole month of July home, i need a new 360. i've set aside $1000 to choose what 360, what perks, and whatever else i may need. my last 360 is now a paperweight, so thats why i need a new one. FT. Benning heat doesnt work for it i guess. anyway, what recommendations for the 360 would you give me? should i get an Elite? should i get a cooler fan? what add-ons for the 360 do you love the most(wireless, headset, cooler, keyboard, etc) that you would recommend me getting?

a brand new xbox with the jasper set up will be fine. also you would end up getting a new warranty, so you wont have to buy a new box for 3 years. If you already have a hard drive, just buy an arcade model. DO NOT BUY any external coolers as they will break your box a hell of a lot faster.
Just keep your xbox in an open area where it will not build up heat. Also, I recommend dusting the area where it sits, so that it doesn't get build up inside and cause heating issues.
Also, if you want online stuff, just buy the 12 month starter kit, to get a game, headset, and chat pad. its like 70 bucks, and it worth it.

Jasper is the new type of chips in elites I believe. They don't burn out as easily. As for the starter kit I'd just look on amazon.com, I got mine for $60 with a chat pad+headset+12 months+PGR4. I'd suggest getting a rechargeable battery with a charger for $20.

$299.99 +tax
unless you go for one of the three "super" elites, those are $399.99 +tax, but they come with a 250GB harddrive. for the super elites, you have the choice of three bundles: Modern Warfare 2, Final Fantasy XIII, or Splinter Cell Conviction.

i may do that. i need the 250 harddrive for my DL games. Bioshock, Saints Row 2, Bad Company, etc. i guess it then comes down to the splinter cell or the MW2 elite.

the Modern Warfare 2 one is getting hard to find because it's been out since the game's release last year and it was actually made in limited quantities. it is also the only one of the three super elites to get a special design for the console itself and faceplate. the FFXIII and Splinter Cell ones are just plain white and black consoles respectively with a 250GB harddrive.
all 3 bundles come with an extra wireless controller, they also come with their respective games, and i THINK they include an HDMI cable, not sure about that though.

Jasper chipsets now come on all 360 models, not just elites! I have an Arcade version with the newer chipset and I could set mine up in the oven and play with confidence. lol
Like everyone said, don't waste your money on the intercooler. All it is is a dust trap. I think my most underrated pickup for my 360 is the $11 chatpad I picked up on Ebay! I love that thing. Other than that, plug and play wireless controllers and battery packs are my peripheral of choice since we have multiple 360s. It makes synching up wireless controllers a no-brainer.

i have the MW2 console. love it.
haven't used my 250gig HD yet though... cuz all my shit's on the 20 and i don't want to transfer everything.
anyway, i didn't think jaspers were the newest chips anymore.
maybe i heard it wrong.

thanx. the MW2 360 just looks cool as well, my cousin has one. i'll pick it up, even if i dont like MW2. i should get good value trading it in.....or putting it on XBA trade, since i have 1 sitting in front of me i can trade in.(not putting it on XBA trade, unbeknownst to the EB games people, its unplayable. so let them clean it). a wireless controller + rechargeable battery pack is a need. i am running through batteries like a have a gameboy again(lol. everyone should know what im talking about). so, getting one os a no brainer. i've become a fast txt'er just using the joystick, so, not going to get the keyboard. and that new wireless adapter they have out seems like a good choice.
what about headsets? are wireless headsets all their cracked up to be?

i prefer the wireless ones but they break easy and don't last as long as wired ones.
also, the wired ones hurt my ear after a couple hours.
AJ once told me i should invest in a turtle beach X1 headset.
think he said they're 50 bucks or so. i'm thinking about it.

It may not be the newest, but it pretty much ended the 40% RRoD trend.
