Interesting, I guess they finally gave the game a rating. As far as I knew they weren't going to rate, and therefore it wasn't going onto the shelves. Maybe it is all a rumor or cruel joke....

I think it's EA trying to get publicity to be honest... But IDK about china, I don't know enough about their country to know where to look to see if it's rated or out or whatever. From what people say about this subject it seems like EA usually doesn't release console games in China because of pirating... IDK though.
There are some decent reasons why it would be banned, dismemberment and suicide being the top 2 that stick out in my head. I guess we'll just have to see...

For the answer, GamePolitics turned to financial analyst extraordinaire Michale Pachter:
GP: If Dead Space was really banned in three major markets (Japan, China, Germany) as the rumor currently goes, wouldn%u2019t that be a material event that EA would need to disclose to the stock market? Also %u2013 does EA sell console games in China? I thought no one did because of piracy issues.
PACHTER: Germany will allow the game with modifications. Japan and China are essentially closed markets. So really, no big deal. No consoles in China, yet
GP: Can you elaborate on what you mean by "closed market" in terms of Japan?
PACHTER: EA sells very little there, maybe $50 million per year, mostly PC games. I don't think it is that controversial.

UPDATE: IGN interview below about Dead Space being banned
IGN: Dead Space has been banned in a handful of nations now. Did you have any issues getting the game through the stringent Australian Classification Board?
Glen Schofield: Australia is getting the full, complete version. No cuts. We're not softening it for anybody. You know, I think a part of it was %u2013 he's not a killer. He's killing aliens and that's why we thought for a while we'd get it through in Germany. And they were like 'well, the fact that he can get dismembered pretty grotesquely is bad, so...' We thought it was cool.
IGN: And Japan banned it?
Glen Schofield: Japan too. Korea thought they would get it, but we haven't heard back yet.

This will only turn out to be someone's cruel joke in the end probably....and I'll be blamed for spreading the propaganda....It sure was spicy though.....
