it seems like GTA at first, but while you are free to go around the city at your leisure, there isn't anything to do outside of the main story missions, so it's really a linear action game except you can take your sweet time going from point A to point B. still though, it's fun, and the story and characters are better in my opinion.

Yeah, for a crime story Mafia II is good. It's set in the 40's and 50's and the visuals are great. I like it a lot better than Godfather 2 or GTA4 so far.
