Counter Strike Coming to Consoles
Some will cry foul, as Counter-Strike is a PC shooter first and foremost. But so, arguably, are Call of Duty titles by the same logic - their controls, twitch-response-time play-styles and overall look and feel are far more similar to Counter Strike than a console shooter series like Halo. But Valve, as RockPaperShotgun stated last week, are prepared to "[look] Call of Duty square in the eye and [tell] it to step outside."
Now, if you've just finished hooking up a new O2 or custom fiberoptic setup up to your Xbox, you'll be pleased that your investment may be justified with a title like this heading to consoles. Making these shooters accessible for people who game with a pad instead of a mouse and keyboard is a good step forward for Valve.
That said, we hope their lack of interest in the console Orange Box post-release won't be the case this time around. TF2 console players are still playing the release version of the game, whereas the PC/Mac version is now free-to-play and contains a wealth of new content.
So... the famous de_dust and other maps on a console. We never thought it'd happen, and we doubt most gamers did either. All that remains now is to wait for footage (as Counter Strike Source is built in the current engine, so anything new may need a more recent build - we hope, bring on Half Life 3/Episode Three already) and screens to get a better idea of what'll put this past Call of Duty, Halo and other shooters in residence at casa de Xbox.
