Metal to the Pedal - Nyko's Metal Pedal

From the Nyko website:

Keep the beat with a pedal that can take a beating with the Metal Pedal from Nyko. The Metal Pedal features reinforced metal plating for unparalleled durability and a unique hard rock design evoking the spirit of rock icons past and present. The extra-wide and sturdy base will be sure to keep the Metal Pedal in place even during the most intense game play sessions. Whether you have Rock Band or Guitar Hero World Tour the Metal Pedal will provide a durable replacement/alternative drum pedal for your drum set no matter what system you own.

Even if you make an effort to be delicate, it's much too easy to destroy the Rock Band drum kit's pedal. The RB2 one added a metal plate on top but with enough abuse it's still possible to break near the pin at the base. The Guitar Hero World Tour kit doesn't quite suffer the same problems but it feels very mushy and isn't compatible with RB kits anyway.

Enter Nyko's Metal Pedal. I've been stomping away on this for a week now without any signs of wear. It's especially great for tougher songs, and almost a necessity if you play GH Metallica on Hard, Expert or Expert+.

The construction is mostly plastic but still solid. The metal plate adds a nice heft to it and is inscribed with a goofy skeleton. Operation of the pedal is decently quiet but looking closely, you can see that it's a plate on a plastic pedal and not all metal, and as such, there is still a remote possibility for the pedal to break near on the pin.

There is also a metal-topped heel rest which will feel especially nice to real-life drummers. The underside is shaped like the RB pedals which means you can hook it on to the bottom of the kit to prevent pedal-creep, but on a GH wireless kit you're SOL.

The pedal's connector comes with a switch to go between GH and RB compatibility. It also comes with a double connector you can attach to use 2 pedals. This is practically a requirement for Expert+ but can work in any mode in RB2 and GHWT and Smash Hits. Note that dual pedal configuration will NOT work on a RB1 drum kit.

Nyko's website lists the pedal for $24.99 but I got mine from GameStop for $20. It is compatible with every console version of Rock Band and Guitar Hero full-band games (World Tour, Metallica and Smash Hits).

I'm giving the pedal a 9.0 because it feels great, stands up to abuse and comes with the connector to use 2. It loses 1 point because even though it's very sturdy, it could still possibly break.
