Try a disc cleaner, call microsoft and check if ur under warranty, or buy a new system? Could replace the disc drive which would be cheaper than a new system, but check if ur under warranty first because as soon as u open ur 360 the warranty is voided. I replaced my disc drive on my original xbox in like 20 minutes for about 35 bucks by buying a new one off ebay.

See if the disc drive returned to the home position, it sometime will get stuck if you turn off your 360 while a game is still running and it gets stuck towards the outside of the disc. Happens to my 360 sometimes. Three choices on how to fix this:
1. Open the sucker up and return it to the home position by hand this is not a permanent fix. (Voids warranty)
2. Buy a new 360 (expensive and not really anyone's first option)
or 3. my new fix for this took a piece of coat hanger wire about10-12 inches long make a small hook on the end about an 1/8th inch.
Turn on your xbox open disc tray then pull the power plug, disc tray should stay open.
with a flash light see if the laser is in the home (near the center)or away (away from the center). If it is away reach in with the hanger to the side of the laser mount so not to try and hook the laser (if you do you fail at life)and the yank the laser mount back to the home position. Plug the sucker back in turn it on then put in a disc and see if you hear the 360 spin up?
If it works save the coat hanger and try not to turn your 360 off when not at the dashboard? I've screwed that up a few times this year.
Good Luck hope this work it does for me?
If it doesn't spin up you need to do what Circus said!

If your console isn't under warranty, you will have to send it to the same place the fixes the red ring, at a cost of $100.00. It will take about 3 weeks from the time you call them to the time you actually get it back.

You would be better off at this point to get a new slim.

Believe me, if you are no longer under warranty, open that bitch up! It's so easy to fix these disc errors, it's definitely the way to go.
If you are not mechanically inclined however, you might not want to. Use discretion. You will need a torx bit set, but other than that, you won't need any special tools other than screwdrivers.

This, My Xbox had the "Open Tray" Error, which is what I think you have. All I did was open up my Xbox, and DVD-Drive and moved the laser towards the center, about Half a Centimeter to the center for me, it sounds super simple... But it unbelievably works.

Thanks for the information. I have the same problem. So far I just been opening and closing the tray and turning it off and on to get it working again. I have the elite and thinking if I get it going again I'm trading it in for the slim and be done with it.
