Ok so I have an Xbox that has a nearly completely broken DVD drive. But I have a warranty that ends on I believe January 21, 2011. I am also getting a new Xbox for Christmas in a couple of days. My theory is that since I'll have a working Xbox, I could somehow give my Xbox that I have now the RRoD and then send it in. Hopefully, it will fix the rings and the DVD drive by giving me a whole new Xbox, killing two birds with one stone. I know it's rather greedy but it's very frugal too. So my friend recommended that I just leave my Xbox on all night about 3 nights in a row. I can't void my warranty with this, so would that be the easiest way to get the rings in time before the end of January?

Yes, just plug it in and keep it on for 3 - 4 days in a row. You may want to run an extension cord from your neighbors house as it could get expensive to run a 360 for that long.
