So I play a lot of Xbox 360 games and PC and would like to be able to use my X41's on the PC as well. I know they make a adapter for it so that is not my question.

The problem is I don't want to have to unplug the optical cable from my Xbox and PC every time I want to switch. So my question is would a splitter allow me to not have to unplug all the time. For instance in this picture:

You would think this would work. Some issues I have thought about would be if both were running at the same time if something would interfere or same with the receiver if it would play both or just throw an error.

Now, of course I would just try this instead of asking but I do not have the PC adapter yet so I just thought i would ask.

This is the splitter i was talking about

A splitter would work but only if there's a switch on the splitter to switch channels, I believe. Otherwise you'd only be getting half the sound since both channels would be open even if you're only using 1.

It might work without a switch but I'm not 100% certain. It would make more sense to get one with a switch anyways just so you don't sacrifice sound quality because you're too lazy to switch consoles :p.

Like AJ said, you will probably need one with a switch. I have all-in-one component cables that have a plug for 360, ps3, and the wii. But video output will not work when the other 2 consoles are off but the cords are plugged in. You have to only have one plugged in at a time. Could be like that for the Optical cable splitter, something like this should help you out....
Optical Splitter with Manual switch
