i don't personally own one, but i have friends that do and they say it's worth every penny.
as for myself, i don't ever feel the need to get one of those expensive headsets. my tv speakers work just fine, and for chatting i picked up a Motorola X205 headset for $10 and they work great

I have the X4s and they are awesome, use to play on my surround sound before but it does not compare for games like MW2 they are unbelievable. I actually got mine on eBay used for $110, and the cool thing about them is you can buy all kinds of replacement parts for cheap like new ear foam, mic, and chat puck . . .

To actually answer your question, I wouldn't pay the extra 50 bucks for the X31s. Just get the x1's or whatever the hell they're called.
