the Devin Townsend Project: Ki review
04/21/10 4:59 pm | #1
Devin Townsend, most well noted for the insane, goofy, and ill-mannered vocalist of Strapping Young Lad, broke off and formed 2 bands: the Devin Townsend Band, and the Devin Townsend Project. Project is set for 4 album releases that is supposed to be like, 1 big album. it focuses on different aspects of Devin's life. Ki- being his ambient self. calm and collective. Addicted- a more alternative sound mixed with ambience. Deconstruction- more of a chaotic form like Strapping. finally Ghost- New Age mixed with Ambience. Ki, the first installment, as said above, is VERY ambient. A Monday, Coast, Disuptr, and Terminal will have you asleep in minutes. very soothing music(except in disruptr, there is a moment of dark, close to metal spot) i liked Ki, but only for the ambience. nothing else. the first 5 tracks is all i ever listen to. afterwards comes Heaven Send, and Aint Never Gonna Win..., which kills the moment like a bullet after a hangover(bad analogy. dont care) Ki gets a 2/5. sorry Devin, but if all the songs were like Terminal, it'd be a whole 'nother story.
