Why is Nine Men's Morris so damn hard on the Homestead in Assassin's Creed 3? I'm playing against the Innkeeper and cannot win! Is there some trick to it or am I just dumb!?

It's just a game you have to figure out a good strategy for....
I prefer to play second on Nine Men's Morris and first on Six. Basically learn how to block the opponents potential runs of 3, while trying to set up a run yourself where they have to block one row, but you will complete another.
For example, if it were just a tic tac toe board, do like this (where the 0s are your pieces)
x0x
xx0
xxx
Then the next turn would be this:
x00
xx0
xxx
So you have two different spots where you can get three in a row, they can block one, but you'll still finish the other and take a piece from them.
It's also good to recognize that to prevent the computer from doing it to you. There's lots more strategy to the game and frankly if you still have a ton of difficulty go find an online version of the game, play against it, with the computer going first on the online game and you going first on the xbox, you mimic the computer's moves on the xbox, and then play the innkeeper's moves into the computer game. I finally learned the tactics and won on my own so I can't recommend any good sites to do that, but it is an option.
