Geekologists, it's that time of year again: Developer Take-Two has just announced this year's installment of what's quickly becoming an MLB 2K tradition: a contest to see who can pitch the game's first perfect game, with $1 million as the prize. This year's contest takes place to celebrate the arrival of the latest game in the series, MLB 2K11, scheduled to release on March 8th, 2011.
For those who fought in last year's bullpen brawl, the setup will probably be pretty familiar: From the official rules page, it appears you've got a little under a month to practice before the contest hits and your games become eligible. At that point--April 1st, unless it's some kind of sick joke--Xbox 360 and PS3 players will be able to submit proof of their baseball mastery in order to claim the prize. If you're gunning for the million, you'll probably want to pick up the game on release day and start practicing--last year, winner Wade McGilberry achieved the prize-winning perfect game on the very first day of the contest. No doubt the worthy pitchers he sniped have spent the entire year preparing for another shot at glory. You'd better be ready to take on the toughest virtual athletes in America.
Oh, and one more thing? The rules have changed slightly since last year's throwdown. A thorough examination of the rules reveals that the minimum age required to win the contest has been lowered to thirteen. That's right--a lucky kid with a bizarre tendon injury is now completely qualified to beat you this spring. MLB 2K11 promises an even more intense competition than its predecessor, so warm up your throwing arm, stock up on Big League Chew, and keep your eye on the prize.
