I think that's more on the lines of Hobby/Addiction. For me it's a way to escape reality. A somewhat simple, but expensive hobby.

An innocent hobby, which is not as expensive as some. When I play games I am within the safety of my home, enjoying myself without harming or disturbing others. I financially come out ahead in comparison to some of my other hobbies. My Ping golf clubs alone cost me more than I spent on gaming in two years.

My video game time is my meditation time. Focused as I may seem on the game, it's the best way I know how to channel my emotions and stress, and help me calm down or cheer up. I can't tell which helps more, though: the games I play, or the music I listen to while playing the games.
That being said, I don't have an addiction. I can stop whenever I want, and have on several occasions (for months at a time, too). Don't talk to me about addictions until Star Wars The Old Republic is released.

i play a full 18 hours one day and play 10 minutes before i go somewhere with my friends the next. i dont think i am addicted, i think that when people are busy, i will play video games. yahoo people are not gamers, plain and simple, they don't get it.
