For those of you unaware Evolution(otherwise known as "Evo") is an international fighting game tournament held in Las Vegas Nevada every year where the top players from around the world to fight for the title of worlds best in their respective game.
Now I know what youre thinking "Well this awesome and all but im nowhere near good enough to enter so whats the point". Why thats the best part while Evo is meant for competition if you are interested in just watching ITS COMPLETELY FREE. In addition there are usually side tournaments and casuals going on all through out the event and occasionaly companies will even exhibition some new games.
Now we take a break to enjoy some of the more HYPE moments of past evos.
Daigo Vs Justin Wong

JUSTIN WONG OMG!!!!!!!!!

Demon Hyo Perfects Dark Prince

And that is just a TASTE of things
At the moment the current evo line up stands as such
This will be one of the first major tournaments held for the followup of one of the biggest fighting games so far. This will also be the first time where the east and west will fight it out for the first time one equal footing since there will be no arcade release of the game prior to the tournament. This will definitely be one of the more HYPE tournaments.
In addition there will also be a ladies only SSF4 tournament which should make for an interesting event.
New edition for the game that started it all, HD remix will have a lot of OG players. While it might look crude to some the players here will need to be on the top of their game as one punch can decide the winner in an instant.
You either love it or hate but MvC2 is definitely one of the more interesting games to watch due to characters with infinite combo loops and matches that can literally end in seconds. While this game is easy to play it is probably one of the hardest to master as even lightning reflexes are still not fast enough.
This is the game that was voted in to evo and will be its first showing. Melty blood is an extremely fast game that is based on a popular anime manga and visual novel series in japan. Expect crazy energy beam attacks and little kids with swords beating the hell out of each other, in other words a %^&(^*( awesome good time.
Similar to MvC2 this game pits capcoms greatest heroes and villians against their tatsunoko counterparts. Tatsunoko is one of the oldest anime companies around so you can expect as much wackiness here as much MvC. This game is far more balanced however so you will see a lot more variety in teams. Again one of the more fun games to watch.
Well it just wouldnt be a fighting game tournament without Tekken now would it? With probably one of the most ridiculous juggling systems in gaming you can expect alot of matches to be a contest of who can get the first juggle with a lot of intense mind gaames going on behind the scenes. Admittidely this can be a very boring game to watch if you dont understand whats going on in the players heads but with characters like kuma the fighting panda/bear you cant go wrong.
Evolution 2010 will be held in Las Vegas Nevada at the Ceasars palace casino from June 9-11. If you plan on entering one of the events you will need to sign up at the evo websiste which will be linked at the bottom of the post, registration closes on July 5th and there is a $10 entry fee. If you place in top 3 however you will win prize money according to a 70-20-10 split according to placement. Some companies will even give out special prizes to those who place first!
Again if you just want to watch or play casuals it is free. There will be tvs provided but you must bring the console/games.
Keep in mind that most of the games at the event will be played on a PS3(unfortunately) so plan accordingly, again more information can be found on the official site.
"But I cant get to EVO !!!!!
Why dont cry there is the magic of the internetz. Evo 2010 will be available to watch through stream at the official website and after the event is over DVDs of all the matchups will be available for a nominal fee (usually $20-30)
I myself plan on personally attending along with a few friends here on the site, also Ceasars Palace has set up special room discounts for those who plan on attending but are in limited availability so ACT FAST!!!
