Bad News: My computer just died.....

Yeah. So I'm at work and my wife calls and says that our computer just has a blue screen.

So I get home and try to start the computer in Safe Mode, only to get the same screen.

After trying everything I can think of, I asked a friend if he knew anything about it.

Sadly, he did. And Best Buy confirmed what he said. It's either a virus, which BB will charge me $200 to fix, or it's a bad hard drive. Which will cost a lot more.

On top of that, BB tells me that McCaffee is not as good a virus protection as they are hyped up to be.....

Yes. And my phone. I think it's time to scoop a laptop as a backup.

Seriously though,I honestly don't know your financial situation.However,I would probably just order a new computer from tiger direct.You can risk it and spend $200 or more and it may not fix it so, you would be looking at like $500-600 if you have to do both.

Have you recently installed new internal or external hardware? The blue screen can sometimes be a result of bad drivers or incorrectly installing drivers. You should try to boot the PC and then continually press F8 on startup, this should take you to the System Recovory and from there you can choose to restore your computer to a previous date.

And not to offened anyone who works at best buy, from what I know, In most cases Best Buy doesnt really know the problem, they just say its a "bad hard drive" then they say "you might as well just buy a new computer"

I also have some potentially good news. My siser in law has a friend who's husband used to fix computers. He said he'd look at it for free.

My laptop did the same thing last week, it was a fried hard drive. Luckily it was still under Best Buy's warranty, but i still had to buy the system recovery disc from Sony.
