Boy was I wrong... at first.
While certainly a very enjoyable game at first, most players are quickly disappointed within hours due to the repetitive and tedious missions that plague the title from the get go.
I progressed through only to quit all together about 65-70% through the game.
So many years have past since the first Assassins Creed game has passed, AC II saw a bright release, AC:Brotherhood saw an even bigger release and lastly AC: Revelations creeped up within a blockbuster gaming holiday, which left most gamers saying (and I say MOST, not all) that they'll simply either pass on the title due to time restraints or "get around to it" some other time.
Myself, I'm a lucky man as I have free time on my hands due to no responsibilities other than work and having college behind me now, it's left me with plenty of time to catch up on the games i've missed over the years.
So the other week I went and picked up AC: Revelations with pretty much zero expectations and the only reason why I picked it up, was because I recently jumped on the controversial 3D band wagon and wanted to enjoy any and every game possible, in 3D.
And since then, I can proudly say that AC: Revelations is officially the first game I've 100% completed in my entire life..which to some of you seems silly but to me, I tend to get distracted no matter how good a game is and never fully complete the game to it's fullest.
I can not tell you how many countless times i've set out to 100% games like Fallout 3 (or New Vegas) and other titles, only to get distracted or get annoyed with something and put it aside for another time and place.
And I can say with extreme confidence that AC: Revelations, while not loved by all, is a fine title brought to us by Ubisoft which came to a satisfying conclusion that had me on the edge of my seat for the last moments of the game.
It's also to be noted that the multiplayer, something I also had low expectations for, is a phenomenal edition to the already stale multiplayer universe that's out there currently.
However the players that run around aimlessly instead of playing the experience the way it's meant to be played, make me want to find their address, drive to their house and take a massive shit on their lawn...and then light it on fire.
For those of you unsure if AC: Revelations is for you but have loved past titles or even loved a game that is within the likes of an open world environment with rich, hand crafted areas and a decently intriguing story (it really depends if you follow the lore and other elements which help add a much richer context to the story as a whole) than this game is surely for you.
Since then I've gone out and picked up EVERY AC game all at once and I've currently started my progress on Brotherhood as we speak, along with the DLC.
It's another game that I intend to 100% complete and I'll enjoy every last moment of that as well as this is a major first in my life that after a few day's or even week's, i've yet to get sick of a game or series as it always happens.
So with that said, I'd like to hear some of your stories or feelings on the Assassins Creed series...such as what drew you to the games or what do you not like about them?
Or if you could improve one thing, what would it be?
Lastly, how do you feel about Ubisoft annual release schedule for the series now?
I feel pretty confidant that they can continue pumping out substantial games for a while as someone from the development team has been quoted on saying that "we could make 35 more of these if we wanted to".
Which to me, is great confidence as if past entertainment endevours can teach us anything it's that most games, movies or TV shows lose their touch after the first few seasons, movies or games....as the majority of the writers never intended on making anything past 1, 2 or 3 (seasons, games or movies) but to hear confidence in the development team that they could happily continue for a long time, means that they have many more tricks up their sleeves.
The only thing I would wish is that, while still a beautiful engine, they upgrade/update the current game engine and add in more diversity to the story along with tying in each side mission to certain elements of the story so you don't feel that you're just "playing" the side missions to get them over but you're contributing to the over all game story...but it's purely optional...if you don't care about them, you don't have to play them but if you want to learn more about the story, you can play them and enrich yourself deeper.
They've masterly done this with multiplayer by included a small story as you progress through the rankings which I think is a fantastic idea!
Okay okay, enough ranting and raving now...let's hear what you think of the Assassins Creed series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
