Personally, I'm not bothered by most duplicate threads. However, I can understand how some people might find it irritating.
I won't be scouring the threads for duplicates. I also doubt I'll be bringing on any staff members to do it either.
I might try to add a step to the post thread script that searches the database for related topics and offers them to the user before they submit. Hopefully that would prevent duplicate threads at their source.
In any case, creating a duplicate thread is just an organizational issue. Ridiculing new members is a far more shameful act.
