Suggestion on getting users to register

Hello, Im new to the site and I will be honest with all of you.
The main reason I signed up here is because I wanted that cool gamercard that ranked me by state.

However everytime I come to this site I see that we have about 10 registered users logged in and about 60 guests.

My thought is to have a pop up when you visit XBA thats asks the guest to register.
I know they can contribute to this community so why not push the register process?

Just an idea.

I'd be afraid something like this would pester guests, deterring them. If they have a genuine interest in participating in the community, they'll join without registration being forced upon them.

I dont think registration is the problem. I think you need to find a way to get people to be active once they register.
It seems like at least one person joines like every 5 min ( going by that newest member thing on the front), yet we see the same ppl on the forums, not too many new faces.

I've been thinking on this subject for awhile now. I know we have a few graphic artists in the community and I think a viable option would be to create another custom Gamercard for people to use in signatures, perhaps make the new Gamercard slightly cooler than the others and require a certain amount of posts in the community before the new Gamercard can be unlocked. Even a 5 post requirement would bring in new blood.

I thought abou tthat too, but a Post requirement would bring Spammers. And incite more spam amongst current members. And this place does not need any more of that. l
