I was playing Star Wars Force Unleashed demo a few weeks back and I was curious on how long its going to take for games to evolve into just having physical damage happen to a character. I was fighting the small AT-AT robot (completely forgot the name of them) and I was just sitting there bashing it with the saber and it seemed be taking a long time to destroy it and I was kind of bummed that the saber wasn't showing any damage on the robot.

I think it'd be cool to have the saber cut right through its legs and have it fall a little. It'd make for a short fight but it would be realistic.

Are there any games out there like this? What could be done to capture the physical damage and still make the game interesting?

GOW is kinda like that

when you get meleed or youre near an explosion (but not close enough to kill you) youre guy would get stunned. same when he gets tagged, he gets stunned..

the death physics were also nicely done. in warzone, when you shoot someone w/ a sniper and theyre downed, they usually flip depending on where shot.

and when you "oneshot" with a shotgun the pieces go everywhere (the explode) and headshots are humorous, as sometimes the body will stand a bit w/ no head before it falls to the ground

Good to know Crook. You know the Devs of Crysis? CryTek? They have stated that graphical limitations of this generation have been reached and that devs should begin spending more time on lifelike physics and environmental reactions. They said by 2011, when the new generation should be close to popping off shelves is when the tech will catch up.

True and that's why the Wii is kicking everybody butt in sales right now. Some devs forget that games need to be first and foremost FUN and pretty second

imo, the perfect game:

amazing graphics
awesome gameplay
destructable environments
real life physics
loads of fun
AND
with lots of replay value

sadly, who knows when a game like this will come out :( there are gams w/ aspects like these, but no game w/ ALL of them...

Well It's funny how you say you need things to be amazing because every generation we've shit our pants on amazing graphical games and we just keep wanting more and more. I remember when I was young going "Damn, I just want a game where I can run around a city, blow up shit, and play with my friends in it." Well we have GTA4 now and I barely get my rocks off on it anymore. It doesn't seem good enough but years ago it would have been the most amazing thing. I'm contradicting myself with wanting to remove the health bar but I guess myself I want more.
