Best and Worse Video Game Endings

Now at the risk of running spoilers throughout this thread. I would like for everyone to put in there two cents on which games did you like the endings of...and while we are at it, feel free to talk about the bad ones, which ones you had high hopes for but ended up letting you down in the end.

I think The Darkness had a good ending to it. Kind of emotional, the girl I was dating at the time was freaking near tears when she was watching it with me. I won't state what it is but those that have played the game know which one Im talking about, the very last scene on the park bench.

That was one of my favorite endings of a video game.

Mass Effect was alright. Great Sci-Fi draw in for gals that are not really big into either Sci-Fi or RPG. Did I say Western? Sorry. Typical demographic marketing attitude.

Oblivion was good, but my sentimental favorite was Portal! If I could describe it in perfect and exact detail, you still wouldn't get it if you had never played it! The cake IS a lie! lol

The worst... Army of two and Bioshock come to mind! Both were great games, but C'mon!!

I agree with you Kiddcartel, the ending to The Darkness was good. That whole game had a great story. There where alot of moments in that game that where great. The church and the orphanage scenes come to mind.

I liked the ending for Ace combat 6, And yes the darkness is quite a ride all the way through to the end.

I really liked the good eneding to bioshock, i thought it was something different. I can see why some people would bitch about it, but i thought it worked quite well, as for the "bad" ending, i thought that one bit the big one.

The ending to Portal ruled btw

The worst ending I ever had wasn't even for an Xbox game...it was for Drakengard for the PS2. There were a number of endings you could get, depending on what all you did. The hardest ending to get forced you to get EVERY item and character in the game, play through EVERY scenario in the game, and then play some ridiculous button sequence event that was only possible if you memorized the pattern. It took WEEKS. Finally, I did it. The final boss fight warped you into the modern-day world and took place around the Statue of Liberty. After completing the ridiculous end fight, the following is what took place.

Having just been victorious, you go to ride off on your dragon. A pair of F-15s fly up and obliterate you with missiles. Thanks for EFFING playing.

I have NEVER been so angry at a game in my life. I dedicated at least 80 hours to see that ending, memorized a ridiculous button mashing pattern, and they thanked me with a short, terrible ending where my character and the dragon get freaking blown out of the sky. Ugh...I'm furious now just thinking about it!!!

Man that would have sucked. I would have been pissed off. who made that game. Never mind, I'll look it up.

Portal's was my favorite too... even though i used a walkthrough

I tried using a walkthrough with portal...but it still started to irk me, lol

Darkness is probably on up there with my top 5 games....gameplay didn't get repititious..story and graphics were great IMO and like TK said..It was quite a ride through out the whole game....The ending was rather emotional...if you haven't played the game yet....go play it.

DS...the two cutscenes among the very last one were the best ones in the game...your RIGHT!

I have to agree with the Portal ending. Freaky funny stuff.

Honestly, I don't really pay attention to the beginnings or endings of games. I find them boring and if I can't interact, I might as well watch something on TV that I enjoy.

I did think the good ending of Bioshock was pretty poignant in an artsy-fartsy kind of way.

The best ending ever in my opinion is GH3 since it's INTERACTIVE.

Call of Duty 4. Level = Game Over.

It was a good, but kind of bad ending.

I'm going to spoil it, but at the end you see Zakhaev and two of his army men on the bridge. Zakhaev blows some dudes head out w/ his desert eagle, you, "Soap" McTravish, turn and look at Price, who slides you a pistol, which you use to kill Imran and his henchmen. Closer to the black fade screen you look over and they are performing CPR on Cpt Price. It was okay, but it makes me wonder wtf will happen to price. He's too cool to die :\

Yeah it made me wonder about what happened to him to, but in a way I kind of like endings like that, it has you make up your own ending...In my head, Cpt. Price survived and went back to kick everyones ass...Rambo Style
