Born in 1967. You do the math. Ive been playing video games since Pong (my neighbors had it). I think I was 7 or 8. I grew up in Honolulu, HI so I had the best of BOTH worlds (edt- I'm in Denver now). I got to play all the cool US games AND all the cool Japanese games when they hit the arcades. Do they even HAVE those things anymore? I spent all my lunch money on a Coke and video games on the way to paddling practice (yes we paddle canoes there - as a SPORT and take PLANES to the other islands). It seems like 67 is the cusp year. Many of the people I know that are a bit older than me never really got into video games so we cant talk shop. Then there are my 36-ish year old friends that are fairly into gaming. I cant make a sweeping statement that would cover everybody, but in general thats how I see it.
Played countless hours on the Atari 2600 and Odyssey (I think it was by Magnavox). Even MORE hours of Lode Runner, Zork (did you see the Nasty Knife reference in that show Chuck on NBC? - I about peed my pants) and all the Infocom games on the family Apple 2 Plus. Got a Macintosh 128 for graduation in 1985 so there was even MORE hours of guard whomping in Ultima IV (or was it V?). I never really got into the 8-bit Nintendo. Apparently that was all the rage in the Frat houses. I had my Mac and I was content.
After graduation I bought my FIRST system with my OWN money and it was the S-NES in 1992. Of course I got all the release games (still have the system and the games), cause I was making decent cash writing software on high end UNIX workstations. I got Link to the Past and I spent every waking moment (when not at work) playing that game. I even came home for lunch and beat it in about 10 days.
A bunch of friends and I from Intergraph all bought the Atari Lynx and had a blast with those. I gave it to my nephew a while back and then he promptly sold it for an N-64. Ill NEVER do THAT again.
I got an N-64 (when did it come out 96?) and was completely blown away when I saw Mario. I thought all the ads were pre-generated graphics and then to see that it was actual gameplay was amazing. I literally had goose bumps.
I got a Dreamcast in a bundle and thought it was pretty cool, but didnt really flesh out the games for it. Ill grab an occasional used game for it if I see one.
It was hard to get a PS2 so I think I ended up getting it as a Valentines Day present after the big release. The majority of my games are for the PS2.
I shouldnt have bought my Game Cube, cause that was when I was laid off. Wasnt that around 9/11/2001? Hmmm A cool system. It took a while to get used to the cell shading of Windwaker, but the story was fun so Id recommend it.
Got a Game Boy SP and really like the Game Cube integration. Four Swords Adventure!!
I ended up winning my 360 online through INETA (yes, I still write software). I love the thing. Its the system I play the most. I think its because of the achievements and the online play. I had that same goose bump moment when I put Gears in for the first time. Definitely amazing. Im slowly getting into FPS games, but its hard to play them when youve got kids around.
Of course I pre-ordered the Wii. I took some time off of the 360 to beat Twilight Princess and then was back to it.
My PC is for WORK! All games are promptly deleted off of it when the OS is installed. Although I DID buy the Myst trilogy, but I havent installed it.
Lately Im playing Portal and Half Life 2 from The Orange Box and play Gears and Halo 3 with http://www.360voice.com/tag/BabySlapper when we find the time.
My gamertag http://spilledmilk.com/ Shameless self promotion. I wrote and published my own comic book. Still writing, but looking for other publishers so I can use THEIR money to publish instead of my own investments.
Ive been looking for deals to round out my 270+ game collection. Since I never had an original X-Box Im grabbing classics like Halo and Halo 2 and Jade Warriors. I dont have time to play them, but at least Ill have them when I feel like playing them. Same thing with the PS1.
All time favorites:
Ocarina of Time (N64)
Twilight Princess (Wii)
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
Skies of Arcadia (DreamCast)
Gears of War (360)
So I guess thats the long version. Please feel free to say hey (and add me to your watch list) and go visit my site!!
