It probably wont save to your hard drive if it cant read.

And you can't play it from you hard drive(just saying) and I dont know if you could install it if it cant read it as sniper said.All installing does is speed load times/lower noise from your xbox.

If you do get a copy that does work you can install it on your hard drive and use the scratched disc to play the game. When you install a game to the hard drive it just needs the disc to verify you didn't steal the game, it doesn't read any data from the disc. So the disc itself can be unreadable the only rub is if its already unreadable you won't be able to install it.

Take it back get a different disc.

I get that alot...even with new games (Im pretty sure my disc drive is going bad, I get a E60 something error every once in awhile.), but IF I get it installed to my HDD, it works great
