This Week On Xbox Live

News | March 12, 2010 9:33 am
This week on Xbox Live things kick off with the second entry in Microsoft’s March Block Party promotion, Scrap Metal. Releasing today for 1200 MS Points ($15.00 USD), Scrap Metal seems reminiscent of games like RC Pro AM and Twisted Metal. While our own Tom Price thought the game had merit, he wasn’t completely sold, however. From our Scrap Metal review: “Scrap Metal is probably the weak link in the Block Party lineup. That’s not to say it’s not a good game, because it is. It just doesn’t have the newness of Toy Soldiers or the nostalgic excitement of Perfect Dark or the epic potential of Game Room. It does have hectically fun gameplay, though strapping weapons on to cars as they race against each other isn’t exactly the most original concept. But Scrap Metal keeps it fresh with different modes like destruction derby and boss battles to liven up the already lively “cars with guns” concept.”

Games on Demand this week gets gory as Condemned makes its downloadable debut for $19.99 USD. Your News and Features Editor’s favorite Xbox 360 launch title, Condemned offers a pretty unique take on survival/psychological/action horror (clearly). From our Condemned review: “Another interesting aspect to the melee is the depth to which the developers have designed the combat system. In a way that really makes players feel immersed in the world of Condemned, the melee combat heightens the game’s ferocity and keeps players cautiously peek around every while keeping a watchful eye on their backside. Ethan’s attackers posses a surprisingly intelligent AI that will cause them to evade, duck behind object, and counterattack. Best of all, Condemned incorporates a variety of finishing moves if you will. After a few blows, an enemy might drop to their knees, reeling from Ethan’s assault. While they are down, but not quite out, players can press one of the four directions on the D-pad that relates to a particularly lethal move.”

This week’s deal for Xbox Live Gold subscribers is the Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack Bundle. Regularly 2000 MS Points, subscribers will be able to grab all of the DLC for WAW for 1600 MS Points ($20.00 USD) until March 15th. Meanwhile, the Forza 3 Jalopnik Car Pack DLC (400 MS Points) and Bioshock 2 Sinclair Solutions DLC (800 MS Points) release on the 9th and 11th respectively. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to see if I can go find Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes for XBLA on the show floor at GDC.
