Internetnet addiction a mental illness

g4tv.com reports that an article appearing in an issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry states that Dr. Jerald Block says that 86% of internet addicts have some kind of other additional mental illness, that unless a psychiatrist is looking for it might be overlooked.

What do you guys think of this, I know people spend alot of time online....but a mentall illness?

I pretty much live on the internet, but it isnt a necesity.
i can do without myspace or email. i have a phone a car and cash, i can just go out every day.
Wow an illness, is that really all that they can come up with?

internet is really a human nececity like taking a bath or going to the restrooom.... but EVEN considering it as a mental problem, well then evreybody is really mental-crazy

It could be actually considered a true problem. Addictive people will choose what to become addicted to. Drugs, alcohol, porn, or what ever, they will become an addict. Personally I think it is just being lazy. If I spend too much time either playing 360 or using the internet, I need to get up and do something outside.

ok i love my internet.
but if i could go out and hang out with friends i would rather go out with them than talk to them on aim.
and i know im not obese i exercise daily by jogging 4 miles a day.
and thats not even counting soccer practice

I agree with you 100% on this one here... I mean yes if you forget to eat becuase your to busy on the internet then you have a problem...But this is where i gain all my information entertainment and blah...that doesn't mean im not active ...haha I'm on an Intermural Dodgeball team...which is awesome....This means I like to keep up-to-date by being on the net rather then watching TV
