Pricing of DLC: Past, Present, and Future

Editorial | March 25, 2010 10:25 am
Browsing the web this morning in a futile attempt to look busy at work, I came across a really well-done editorial on the pricing of downloadable content in the current generation. Written by Martin Gaston of X360A, the article's main focus is on the recent release of the Sinclair Pack, put up for download by 2K Games as an add-on for the Bioshock 2 multiplayer.

Upon release of this DLC, 2K openly admitted that the content was in fact on the disc itself, it was just locked and cannot be accessed unless purchased from the Xbox Live Marketplace for 400 Microsoft points. The article branches off into how the current pricing of DLC has risen recently, how consumers view it, and what could be in the future. Check it out and post your comments!

Achievements certainly play a big role in this as well; a lot of people will flat out refuse paid DLC if it does not add any achievements to the game. Microsoft had a genius idea with the advent of achievement points.

I personaly don't like how the pricing has jumped since launch, the halo 3 map packs I didn't even bother to get untill I got them with ODST. I like trying to get 100% on the games I play but I will only get the expansions that have achievements if I really like the game or to play the content with my bro if he already has the expansions other then that I stay to buying arcades and even there is getting a little too pricey.
