Early November Community Spotlight - Pure EVIL!!
As you know, us staff writers have these weird things called lives, so I apologize for the lateness of this CS. It was supposed to be the October Community Spotlight and is going to be an interesting combination of questions presented by both Aldemar and myself. Sorry for the side tangent, on to the interview!
Aldemar: Okay: So you're from Iowa and like to shoot things with a gas powered rifle. *Note to self, stay away from Iowa* Anything else we should know about the scary person hiding behind that gold, gray, and black visage?
PureEvil: I have a wife and 2 sons. Ages 10 and 3. The 3 year old has been heard on many occasions uttering phrases that a 3 year old probably should not be saying...... I work in a frozen warehouse roughly 7 days a week, which is usually between 0 and -20 degree's inside. Aside from playing games, I enjoy reading, watching movies, playing with my kids and spending time with my family.
Minioger: Frozen warehouse it sounds.....cold. But seriously what the heck is up with your gamertag? I mean times 21? I mean if you're already "PureEvil" then how can it be multiplied?
PureEvil: Well anyone could read it in my "What's behind YOUR Gamertag?" Thread, but I will fill everyone in again, I don't mind.
Back before my job went to 7 days a week, I used to play Paintball, a LOT. Some friends and I started doing local tournaments, and our team's name was Pure Evil. The 21 was my jersey #. And the "x" was added because somebody, somewhere, already had Pure Evil with and without the 21.
Aldemar: So, we covered the origins of your gamertag, and yourself; but what about the origins of you as a gamer? How'd you start out?
PureEvil:
I started out with the Atari and Sega Master System, lol. I remember Pong, Centipede, Milipede, Pac-Man and so forth. But it wasn't until my brother and I got an NES for Christmas the year it came out that I really got into gaming in a big way. We used to have timed speed runs on Mario, with and without warp zones, and at one time could beat Contra without losing a single life. Look at my GS on that one and you will swear I am lying to you. I didn't start the whole "Achievement" style until later, with games like Final Fantasy VII and Castlevania: SotN, by that I just mean the 100% in a game. For me it was awesome when real Achievements came out, because I was already in the habit of trying to complete games I liked. Now I just do it with games I don't like too. lol.
Minioger: I have NO idea what it is like to play games just for achievements. So have any games you are looking forward to this holiday season?
PureEvil: There are so many that I am already behind on. I still haven't played a ton of games on my shelf, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Bioshock 1 and 2, just to name a few. But I already have Fallout New Vegas waiting till Xmas for me. I only know because I got the call when it came in stock, lol, she bought it at a local store on release day for $30 but they were out, so it was a rain check.
I am looking forward to COD Black Ops, Fable 3, and then some that I missed out on but still want. Dragon Age, Borderlands, Darkstalkers.
Minioger: I'm with you there...I just started Oblivion not that long ago myself, looking forward to Fallout 3, then hopefully I'll pick up New Vegas myself.
Aldemar: So, how did you come about this little site? How long have ya been here?
PureEvil: I actually found this site through a sig at x360a, one of the state ranking sigs. And I found them through searching for a guide for a game, lol. I have been here since April 15, 2009.
Aldemar: What has spurred you to be a generous member of the community, going as far as to give away free stuff? Do you love us that much?
PureEvil: Other members really helped me there. I seen how other people, like Durtie, and others, were giving out codes and stuff in the original FRCT, and now the FRCT 2.0, and decided it was cool. Back then I had about 58 codes for 48 hour trials, all from spamming the Tropicana Twister promotion that went on. I had bought a 12 month by then, and no longer needed the 48 hour trials so I gave them all away.
Then I gave out some Arcade codes I had from a 12 month bundle, as I already had those games. Really though, that all started with other people being so generous. Now Ermac does a lot too. These guys go above and beyond, really.
I won the first Movie Challenge, and knew then that I wanted to do one too, so I got the 4th one, and did prizes for that too. The site is just cool like that, there is really only 1 other place I would do these things at right now.
Minioger: That other place would be my house right? Right? RIGHT? Er anyhow.... So this generousity is also what inspired you to brave the horrors that was Call of Duty 3 boosting to help your fellow XBA'ers (including myself) get the general achievement, even though you spent numerous hours getting it yourself?
PureEvil: I like to repay people for helping me with boosting. I am the type of gamer who feels that if you get helped with something you should repay that help. Noah9000 had been helping us in Gears 1 for Seriously.... even after he got it himself. He had seen my 1k on COD3 and asked if I could give him a hand completing his. I didn't have the game anymore and he offered to buy my one if I helped him out. That's where it started. You need about 8 people to be successful in a COD3 boost, due to a high ratio of legit players who are still active on it's multiplayer. I made a thread and later Events to get people from here for it. We were lucky to get all our people through their General, with the exception of sprinter and Bonedaddy(JSkellington), I still have the game when they can get their schedules to match mine, lol.
Aldemar: Off topic for a few seconds... What would you rather have, a bicycle or a banjo?
PureEvil: LOL, Bicycle, definitely. Me playing a Banjo, if you could call it that, would NOT sound good....
Aldemar: Back on topic: if you had to take one thing to a deserted island, what would it be?
PureEvil: That's a tough one. I obviously can't say anything like my 360, because I would have no TV or power to play it. I would say a Photo Album. It would give me a reason to strive to live on and not give up. That sounds corny as hell, but really what else would I take? An iPod would be dead in a few days tops, a book would be read soon and abandoned.....
Aldemar: Okay, so we are actually getting back on topic this time. But I'm going to ask you about one of the many controversies that gets everyone riled up. What's your stance on gamesaving/gamerscore modding?
PureEvil: Absolutely against it. I honestly think that MS is too soft on the issue. They should not only ban the member, but send a signal to the 360 the person is on to lock it from LIVE as well. Kinda like they do periodically with modded 360's. What bragging rights do you really have when all you did was hack your score? You're nobody special and anyone who actually pays attention to Leaderboards will know you for a fake.
Minioger: Dirty rat bastard gamesaving doucheb....oh this question wasn't addressed towards me. So we all know you own a 360, is there a PS3 or a Wii sitting in your home as well? Don't lie now, you don't want your interview to end with lies....
PureEvil: We have a Wii, that my son just HAD to have, and it barely gets used. Our 3 year old plays it more than the 10 year old it was bought for, lol. I want to get Punch Out and the Metroid Trilogy for it. There are a few others that interest me as well. Zelda: Twilight Princess I think is the title.
No PS3 yet, but eventually we will get one. Damn Blu Ray won the HD war and all. Of course I bought the losing end of that deal. HD DVD baby!
Minioger: I like it: WE have a wii, but your son made you get it! LIES! I bet you play all the games dancing around like a fool. You'll probably get a kinect too and pet the baby tiger! Anyhow, thanks for ending the interview with lies! Oh well I mean thanks for taking the time to do this interview with both myself and Aldemar. Tune in next time to see which
