Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce

Game Review | March 2, 2010 9:37 am

Dynasty Warriors is back with another game to milk the franchise except with a new twist ... your can go Super Saiyan !!! Welcome to Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce by Koei.

Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce was originally on the Playstation Portable for almost a year and is finally coming to higher gen consoles. The only problem is that the game is an EXACT copy of the PSP version. Sure there are couple console exclusives to the game, if you want to call them that. You can play in an online city, Dynasty Warriors first game to have online co-op ... took them a while to realize our desires. There is also added quests given to you by certain characters depending on the system , on the XBOX 360 Version you get the special characters of Warriors Orochi 2 giving you missions ... in the PS3 version you have Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane and the other girl from Sigma 2 giving you quest, i still fail to comprehend how PS3 got Ryu but we didn't ... anyway. The last real difference is that Meng Huo was added to the strikeforce list of playable character. Aside from that everything is practically the same

In traditional Dynasty Warriors Games you choose a side: Wei, Wu or Shu and you play out their story and how they conquer the land. This game is no different , however the way you go about story progression is different , in a way. Instead of playing maybe 8 - 10 missions and calling it a story , you have 6 chapters per side and you accept quest given to you in order to move on in the story. You pick these quests in a city where you rest in between quests. In this city you can upgrade your weapon , create stronger weapons , and create other customizations for your character as well as buy items to use in combat, i guess you could say it sounds like an RPG. Also with these cities you cna upgrade the facilities supplying these upgrades and items to you through battle and through the officer cards you receive in game.

The combat is quite different from normal Dynasty Warriors games. Strikeforce influences more aerial combat opposed to walking and mashing the x button everything , they want you to jump at the enemy and then mash x. And instead of walking around from place to place , YOU CAN NOW DASH !! ... exciting i know. Like the PSP version, their are areas in each quest, recycled sections of the game that are put together into sort of a path leading you to your goal. You also have the option of assisting 3 other officers to fight with you in your missions to lessen the stress on yourself. Now for the most important part , the Super Saiyan now ... also known as Fury Mode. Taking the place of your Musou, your fury is a transformation that enhances your speed and strength for a limited time. It may not sound so great but you will like it once you get used to it and whenever your pitted against higher level enemies.

The graphics are a big improvement from the PSP version. though i wish the would have used the extra time after updating the graphics to updated the stages of combat.

The online city isnt has bad as most assumed it to be. Practically lag free depending on the players. Unless one of your four possible teammates have the worst internet ever then it shouldn't lag on them . The online city can be played with up to four frees, you and your teammates can play missions from the main campaign together instead of having to play through the story by yourself. You can also trade materials with each other in the city to help each other out with item creations. You also have the option to go a officer trade when you and another player can trade officers to us as your ally

Achievement Wise the game is quite a time consuming one , you could get a lot more than 200 gamerscore just from playing your first mission , however the remainder of those achievement involved a lot of grinding for materials to help for your "Weapon Collector" achievement and the achievement that correlates with materials needed to make them, like Orb an Chi collector. Not to mention how long it will take to randomly receive the officer cards you need.

Overall i give the game a 7/10, i love the game and how fast paced it is compared to the other Dynasty Warriors games but i wish they would have done more opposed to the PSP versions.

I got Dynasty Warriors 4 for Xbox and that was fun.

But you forgot to talk about the sound effects and music in the game. Other than that, good review.
