Dragonball Raging Blast Review
Im sure many of you grew up watching the epicness of the ever so popular series known as DragonBall Z!! The Dragonball series has released many games and the previous new gen Dragonball game , Dragonball Z: Burst Limit, was quite a failure and disappointment to many fans , this game wont have that same result.
Raging Blast is supposively the new Tenkaichi if any of you remember it from the PS2 console. Many players wonder why there is such a lack of characters considering that had so many in the last Tenkaichi. Well to answer your question , this game was made by a different company and they couldnt simply take everything from Tenkaichi , only base there plans on it and so everything done in the game was made from the ground up, in a time limit may i add with little they could really do. Namco Bandais primary focus was to make this game a very competitive online game ... which we will discuss later and so they choose theyre lineup of characters and await the results of their game. The game proved to be a huge success, if not in the US then in Japan where the game sold more than a Final Fantasy game that was released on the same day , to beat Final Fantasy in its own country is simply amazing. After the money made from the success it is possible they can make a second Raging Blast and continue the franchise
The main story mode of the game is called Dragon Battle Collection , where you fight different battles from the anime series as well as some "what if stories" they added into the game for kicks. Now the main story seemed kind of strended out , adding fights that weren't really fights in the main series , such as Gohan's training with Goku and Piccole in preparation for the Androids ... they never showed Gohans training in thw show , why must we experience it in the game. Aside from that , the story mode is pretty good. Out of the many movie arcs , Namco Bandai only added Broly and Bardock into the game (Wheres my Future Gohan !). But to make up for this , Namco Bandai released two new transformations to fit with their "what if stories" mentioned earlier ... a Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Broly !!!
The graphics are very fitting for a Dragonball game giving it its animated look as it was from the anime series while still making it suitable for a new gen console. The environments of the stages are pretty detailed and make it seem as if you really are watching the show and making your own outcomes
Now the online community ... though it was Namco Bandais main goal in making this game ... it become a huge failure. The online play shows rarely any lag , even with fights with players across the globe from each other , however the community is full of spoil sports. Everyone is using the same cheap customized items on their characters , spamming the easiest moves with the easiest character in order to win and if you dare step up to do the same to beat them ... they quit out on you and put blame on you as if they were playing fair. Quitting out doesnt penalize you so you can only imagine the amount of players at the top of leaderboards who got up their through this cheap tactic. I myself have beaten a few of them only to experience that disconnection.
Achievement wise , the game is very time consuming and also holds the most random achievement ever , its called "All Ruined" and it requires you to destroy everything in every stage in 1P vs CPU versus ... now the problem with this is that you wont know exactly you need to destroy and if you destroyed them , you basically have to assume you destroyed everything and move on ... which can take quite a bit of them as you might have to keep doing all the stages multiple times ( i went through them all 5 times)
Overall , the game is fun , i definately recommend playing it with your friends but if you aim to make a name for yourself online ... dont bother , you wont get far with the type of players online ... hopefully Namco Bandai will create an penalty for quitting or dashboarding and maybe they'll also follow Blazblue's example and give each constant disconnector something to recognize them by
