Blazblue: Calamity Trigger Review

Game Review | December 28, 2009 3:45 pm
Note: This is my first article , i dont know what all is required of a article so please bare with me

What comes to mind when you first hear someone utter the words "Blazblue" ... well if your like most american gamers youll probably reply my mispronouncing its name purposely and then asking what kind of japanese game is it. Well Blazblue: Calamity Trigger is a new 2D fighter made by Arc System works , creators of Guilty Gear.

Blazblue: Calamity Triggers story is complied of what if stories to get an idea of what every character is like and you play leading up to the "TRUE" story revolved around its main protagonist of the game, Ragna The Bloodedge, who has an apparent bounty on his head due to the fact he obtains an absolute power within him called "The Azure Grimore". Confusing already isnt it , well lets skip the borrow stupid , this is a fighting game afterall

Blazblue is compiled of 12 unique characters whom all hold completely different movesets to each of them , no duplicate characters like the overrated Ryu, Ken , Akuma combination. We have a Red Hulk with magnetic abilites , a big boobed nurse with a pole (dont get the wrong idea now), A close combat cat girl , a wind controlling lolicon ... i can go on ... Playing this will require you to train quite a bit as new combos are discovered everyday and spread throughout the serious Blazblue players

Anyway the gameplay is very fast paced , no side stepping or slow back steps like in SC4 or SF4. 2D sprites fighting within various beautifully rendered scenery with a hardcore rock backgroud music to keep the intensity of the fight going. Theres several aspects in the game like a "Distortion Drive" which is basically the special bar of the game , a move called the "Rapid Cancel" which lets you forcibly stop your combo and chain into a brand new one and much much more. The online has rarely any flaws at all, Lag is almost nonexistent even a fight between a US and JPN player. The community holds no real spoil sports whom rage quits however you will find that one bragging jerk telling you to quit.

Now whats a review without the cons, the Characters are definately broken ... what else can you expect in a fighting game , you have 2 powerhouses whom can kill you in 3-5 hits if used correctly , a subzero wannabe who give even beginners a fighting chance or even overkill just through spamming the moves of this character , a robot girl whom can trap you in an infinite combo of attacks of projectiles that appear all around you ... but this is all expected in the beginning of a franchise

Now for you Achievement Junkies , the game is very easy to hit 1000 in , even to complete noobs of the fighting genre. You can look at the achievement guide on x360a.org which was also made by yours truly.

Overall , this game is a must have for fighting gamers everywhere and a game everyone should give a chance. Street Fighter may have its history but thats all it is now ... just history , make room for the future, and in that future is Blazblue: Calamity Trigger

Great review! I never knew what this game was all about and was too lazy to look it up because I figured I wouldn't care to play it, after reading this I might actually go pick it up soon. Looks great, I sure do miss street fighter... This does seem like the future!

I loved this game, can't wait for the next Blazblue which they have already stated will have twice as many characters. Good write-up.

Twice as many? I think you may have heard wrong. Blazblue: Continuum Shift is only going to have three new characters, technically four if you include that V-13 is being replaced by Λ-11. Hazama and Tsubaki, who only appeared in the story as side characters, will be playable, then μ-12 as the final boss character.

I think it's weird how they say "Rebel 1" instead of "Round 1." It kind of sounds like a mistranslation.

lol to be honest, i think it sounds retarded, like they were trying too hard to be different xD

i mean, "the wheel of fate is turning" was ok i suppose, maybe pushing it a little, but "rebel 1" was just akfahdfjkge; :p
