Bakugan Battle Brawlers Review

Game Review | December 30, 2009 1:53 pm

Welcome to the wonderful world of Bakugan , where a simple children's game becomes the fate of the world as criminals decide to use this game for complete world domination ... how original

Bakugan is the most popular kids game today and has sold millions of its products , so its basically the new generation pokemon , they both have monsters and they reside in tiny spheres ... but forget the comparison. Bakugan's story revolves around you a normal Bakugan player who aims to become the best just like every other little kid wants and at a twist of fate you meet Leonidas , an unknown Bakugan that isnt known to others. Leonidas shows an aggressive need to beat other Bakugan and he learns to become nicer after meeting you , however after his arrival horrible things happen and Leonidas is accused of them all. With only the support of Dan , the main protagonist of the series, you must prove that Leonidas is good and become better by winning various tournaments and bakugan battles leading up to a final Bakugan battle that determines whether or not were ruled by a mad man who thinks he can rule the world with a tiny sphere ... sorry to put you to sleep with this

Now the game isnt at all bad , its actually pretty fun. Your deck consist of three gate cards , ability cards and Bakugan. Gate cards hold an effect and all the different elementals of the game with a number within each of them. Ability cards are cards used during Bakugan battles to help give you a fighting chance when you think your going to lose , kind of like a Trap card from Yu-Gi-Oh! except you can only use each once , and Bakugan have there own element and G-power which is how strongethey are , in Bakugan battles the one with the most power wins. As you can see setup is pretty simple

You start each game by each player placing a gate card on the field and each player rolls there bakugan to one of the cards , whenever two bakugan are rolled on the same card , they fight. The Gate card they are rolled on gives each bakugan an additional power boost according to the element and the number shown within it and any effects on the gate card. During the battle each player can decide if they want to use an ability card to win the fight if there losing and whomever wins in the end gets the gate card , and the first to collect 3 gate cards wins. So im sure you can see that even though its an kids game , it still has a bit of tactics in it

Now for when things go downhill , yes the actual game can be fun and tactical but in the video game there are various extras that ruin it. When a player rolls there Bakugan then can control its every movement and on the special elemental fields are power ups to give players advantages against the opponent , advantages ranging from a g-power boost to a card that renders your opponent blind in their next turn. There are also mini games to help boost your g-power after both players use there ability cards to see give the losing player a last minute chance at victory. Of course this all might seem interesting if it wasnt for the fact that the CPU dont know what theyre doing and so you will basically win every match. And if you think it could be fun against other players ... well theres no online multiplayer so youll have to play with another person in the room and who in there right mind at a mature age ask thier friend "Hey do you want to play Bakugan on the Xbox 360!" without thier friend giving them a weird look and possibly a beating

Now for the achievement junkies , the game isnt hard at all to 1000 , however can take a bit of time and its a pretty boring process , yes you can have fun playing the oh so easy game known as Bakugan but it will get pretty boring and repetitive when your grinding for money to purchase the last few items you need

Overall the game is fun but i would like for it to NOT have the extras that arent in the aspects of the game in the real world and then maybe it might be worthy of having an online matchmaking to have fun with , but how knows , with the shows popularity there could be a New Vestoria game with these wishes of mine.
