I guess I am asking you if you even try to explain your gaming habit to your family or friends. I just tell people that it's my hobby, and my wife doesn't have to wonder where I am.

My brother-in-law is a 'golf aficionado' which is a camouflage term for 'golf snob'. He bugs me about my gaming hobby and I just tell him it's easily compared to his golf hobby (which he hates it when I call it a hobby). He talks about his handicap + I talk about my G/S (not really, but you get the idea.) He goes out to the course and I head into my bedroom where my console is located.

My parents didn't like Video Game systems when I was a kid (I'm 28 now) so we never had one. I'd play at my friends houses, but my dad always told us it was better to go outside and do something. That was fine with me since I love sports. Got hooked on Basketball, got college scholarship offers for it (Division II schools) and life has been great. Once I got married I thought....why not get an xbox, so I did and played when I had down time and needed something totally stress free to do. Xbox 360, Wii, PS3 all followed.

I still love going outside and doing things, Mountain Biking and Basketball, though basketball is indoors :) but when I just want to relax and have no pressure on me I play video games. I don't care about the storyline for the most part, just play for fun. If a game starts to stress me out I stop playing. If I'm going to game to leave everyday stresses behind then there is no point in playing a game once it gets stressful.

pretty much this. well... that's how it started, anyway.
the achievement bullshit has ruined my former self, when i think about it.

i don't play most games with MP achievements, and i spit on 360 RPGs.
i used to LOVE RPGs but i'm a completionist now, and RPG devs are anal demons when it comes to achievements. you don't have to take my word for it, of course. ask around.

go ahead and make your "do every fucking thing" achievement.
i won't buy your game. good day.

;p
2/6 games i have 1k'd are RPGs
Anywhoo though, i'm kind of an achievement whore, but I also forget about it sometimes (still have an ambition to 1k games on my card, but nevertheless). I just don't feel the need to explain myself, really, and my family has never really asked questions. It's mostly: "Stop playing already and go to bed, its 3 in the morning" >.>
But yeah there aren't a whole lot of good non-frustrating RPGs on 360

I don't care to explain.. I have one friend who plays.. My girlfriend doesn't mind me playing any game 'cept COD. and I usually just play in the winter months when I'm not too busy with school work.. Summer too, but not as much.
