I've known about it since December 14, 2006. Major Nelson posted on his blog the day it came out.

The icing on the cake is that Conker: Live and Reloaded & Dead Or Alive Ultimate are also backwards compatible from that same update.

Yea they are spending less and less time adding more games and updates because they figure everyone is playing all the 360 titles that are constantly being released which is true.

My guess is that we will have one last update to back compat, and they will call it good. Peter Moore made comments at GDC that said they were still working on it, but it was coming to an end.
