You may or may not agree with my reviews and what i have to say about said films so taking that into consideration i hope you do read them and end up finding one you think is worth a rent/buy,also don't hesitate to shout me or pm me about a movie you may want to know about or want to see a review for,the views is just over 300 ,thanks for checking it out and i hope you enjoy it.
also most of these films are avalable on xbox video (formally zune) for around 360msp (after they are out of the theaters). -X

The Gray, i was hesitant to watch this one ,not because i didn't think i would like it just one of those films i passed over quite a bit till now.
simple story,a group of oil rig workers take a flight to their next job and the plane goes down deep in Alaska's desolate wilderness.
the setting for the film was as the title suggests gray,no buildings,no people and after about 15 mins you get the feeling that things are indeed hopeless for the survivors who now have to fight for their life's.
the other big element besides the weather were the wolves, they are always lurking around the corner, the film did a great job of not forcing them down your throat every 2 mins, instead the focus remains on surviving one of the worlds most dangerous wilderness completely unprepared.
Neeson was good,IMO not his best role but still good enough to keep you watching. The supporting cast doesn't really shine as much as they could have since you are offered very little in the way of back story or anything that remotely makes you care if anything happens to them, there were moments but very few.
4/5,this one is definitely for the survivor genre fans out there,if your looking for a wilderness/survival movie this one should be on your list.

The devil inside, im a huge horror fan and this movie was just plain bad.
based on the real life story of a woman who was "possessed" in the mid 90's and confessed over a 911 call that she killed 3 people.
shortly after the 3 people were killed(in the first failed "exorcism") she is moved to the Vatican but is not officially declared "possessed".
the whole film is shot with a walking cameraman and a few "documentary" camera's that are there to record the "exorcism" as it happens.
the acting was sub par, the main characters were so-so and the supposed "possessed" actress was good even though her screen time was limited to 20 min's.
the story was supposed to be about the woman who killed the 3 people & was apparently "possessed"(or so i thought) but ended up being more about the other characters...where did the story go guy's?
the few good things about the film i liked were the actors that portrayed the "possessed" and the pure shock value that comes with any "possession" or"exorcism" movie (insane vocals, crazy face/body expressions & just about everything about the "possessed" victim)

2/5,overall the devil inside is not for most horror fans,i would recommend it if you like B movies or are not big on story's that make sense.

One missed call
, i know it's a few years older but i had not seen it yet and the preview looked good.
the story is good, people start getting phone calls with messages that strangely are from themselves but dated a few days ahead of time.
i know it sounds like another cheap horror flick but this one has some creepy stuff packed in it, im not bothered or scared easy and this one had some unnerving shit.
3.75/5 the acting was good, nothing award winning but still worth watching.
Solid horror flick, if you liked fear dot com or final destination ,one missed call should be on your list of movies to watch, X 9-30-12

Hitman, just got done watching this one, kinda interested to see what they did with the ubisoft title in terms of story so i gave it a shot and surprisingly it was pretty good.
story wise the movie is simple to watch and follow, a hitman is tasked with killing the Russian president for one of his clients, (cutting the spoilers)shit happens & he becomes the target and has to figure out who hired him to kill the president and why he is now the one being hunted by the same organization that raised him to be a ruthless assassin.
the lead (Timothy Olyphant) was great in all the action scenes but it just felt like he was restricted because of the "hitman's" mindset/actions,having seen him before on film it just felt like all of his acting talent was white washed out of the film.
3.25/5 , hardcore fans of the video game series may not like this one but if you like action films and aren't a fan boy then you should have no problem liking Hitman especially if you tend to like action films shot overseas. X 10-3-12

Cabin in the woods
, watched this one last night half expecting to see yet another run of the mill stab & scream flick.
The title of the film is VERY misleading if your expecting a simple slasher/horror flick, i can't tell you too much cuz i don't want to ruin the twists but all i can say is as always Joss Whedon does not disappoint:cool:, great story with an insane plot twist, the actors were great and the effect are amazing.
4/5, insane plot twist that covers massive territory and delivers a great what if punch line, recommended for fans of supernatural or conspiracy film.

Abe lincolin the vampire hunter, rented this one last night from the xbox video service, i had a few expectations going in to the film but nothing high enoough to tear down the whole film if they didn't meet them.
i guess the first thing you should know if you havn't seen the movie yet is the film is not a typical fang fest, it's story is about one of historys most beloved and important figures, the vampire angle works it way in when his mother is killed by a man his father owes money to and he witnesses the creature in the act.
The young adult portion of the film was really enjoyable to watch as he struggles to become a hunter and the man we all know today, the issues in the film that were part of his life were present, slaves, war and his time in office.
the acting was very good, the supporting cast was great, the movie does feel a little slow in some areas but the action and acting were enought to carry it through the parts that dragged.
effects were top notch, the burton style was apparent, from the first vampire transformation to the almost trademark pale gray look you can spot in most of his live action films, the score was good ,it provided drama and a few jumps here & there, visual wise the film very easy to watch, i hate to simply say it's a burton film but i cant really describe it any other way, everything you love or hate about his films is surrounding abe's story.
4.5/5,overall abe lincoln the vampire hunter was a great watch, im a huge horror fan as you guys may know and i like burtons work but his films are not what i would got to if i wanted a scare or intense gory, personal prefrance aside this one's worth a rent or buy if your a fang fan, i would reccomned this to the burton fans and of course fans of the vampire lore.

Prometheus, another rent from the xbl video service, i have to admit going into the film i knew little to nothing about it, this did help A LOT since it is apparently a tie-in to the alien series in the form of a prequel.
the story is pretty simple, a dozen or so people on bord the ship "prometheus" set out to find the origin of a "invitation" which according to the geoligest on board came in the form of many different digs culmanating in the same symbol through out many different cultures in history that couldn't have had contact with eachother,so by defalut it's apparently an invite from some long lost "engenieer" speices that they think created the human race. so to sum it all up the whole premiss of the trip is to find the supposed beings that created the human race.
if your expecting a full on alien film or a story heavy with the alien lore then your going to be let down/dissapointed by it, the film did tell the origin in a more non shalant way, and had scenes that were obvious nods to the alien series, like the giant "u" shaped ship they used in the first alien film that had all the alien eggs on it, by the time you see this ship towards the end of the film the picture should be pretty clear as to where the aliens fit into this movie and series.
acting wise the movie is solid, not an all star cast but still good enough to keep you intrested in what's happening to the characters.
the visuals are amazing, the score to the film was great, special effects were what the first alien film would have been like if made today with the 130 million budget they shot with (they were amazing)
4/5, taken as a stand alone film prometheus is a great sci-fi movie. if your expecting a overly detailed blunt explanation of the alien story then your probably going to get a little irratated/impatient but all in all i think you will walk away somewhat satisfied that you know where/how it began even if it still leaves a lot of your alien origin questions unanswered.

VHS, another first person camra horror flick, personally i don't hate fpc horror films, i just feel like im missing the majority of the action/scene while the camra shakes around giving the "feeling of real terror" or to show the first hand account rather than focus on the acting and story.
ahh now that i bitched about how fpc films make me feel i guess i get on with this one, vhs is about a group of 6 guys that are usually up to no good, their camera habits (which is how they get paid) include running up to women in public and pulling her shirt up to expose the boobs (which they catch on their handheld camera), vandalising empty houses and just being plain douchebags. getting paid for these actions by selling their videos is what keeps them going untill their friend lets them in on his "deal", an agreement with his source to find 1 vhs tape and return it to him, sounds simple until they arive and find dozens of tapes now having to watch all of them to get to the tape they are after.
the story in vhs is simple, each story has a diffent angle/twist but most of them all have supernatural themes in them.
i love the idea of slpiting the film into 5 tales that connect to the main story, it's something i enjoy quite a bit in other films/tv, you almost feel like your watching a bunch of tales from the cript/darkside episodes instead of one long fpc movie.
the acting was so so, the visuals were meh with the exception of a few parts in each story and the film didn't have a rel score/soundtrack.

2.75/5, not the best fpc horror film every made but it does have a ton of gory and may jump you a few times, i would reccomend this to anyone that likes either first ferson camera horror or movies that have a bunch of short storys in them.

the amazing spider man
finally rented this one last night from the marketplace and i have to say for a non rami spider man flick it was pretty good.
the movie is a prequel of peter's life before he becomes spider man, he does turn into the web head in the film but this one focuses more on the tale of his young adult hood and fills in the blank spots about his parents, aunt & uncle and his first love gwen.
the story is really full of emotional situations, from the major blow wih the uncle (some people may not know about it so i won't spoil it) to peter's struggle with the new found powers and young adulthood, i felt like they traded a lot of the classic spider man facts and well known lines for a more realistic feel towards the film, like his uncle never gave him the classic "with great power.." talk which was in almost every spidey origin since he was created.
the acting talent was top notch, lead as spidey was for the most part really convincing, he showed emotion when it called for it and had the young adult thing down, the other leads were great as well, the "lizard" had a really fresh look and the actor played the part very well, i really liked the scenes he had with peter that involved him as a man, gwen's part was nailed, the teenager with a huge crysis of a new found love (that just happens to be the spider man) and her hectic school/work life, she made me really belive she was gwen, support was top notch, leary as the lead police sgt was great, the aunt/uncle combo of field & sheen were close to perfect.
i feel like im wasting space by even commenting on the effects and score since they are both pretty much dead on, for the budget you pretty much get the point.
4/5while i enjoyed the move a lot and it is a great retelling of the epic story of one of my all time top marvel hero's i just felt there could have been more, maybe im just to picky/greedy as a marvel fan but i just have my views that i wont post since their just nitpickings from a huge marvel fan-boy.
epic superhero film that if your a fan of the marvel series you should own and if your a fan of big budget action films you should rent. 12-28-12

the revenent, thought this review was saved a while ago but apparently not,so here it goes again.
saw a trailer for this one a month back and it looked badass, a guy fighting for the us overseas is killed in action, upon returning to american soil and a funeral service being held his body just up and re-animates, confused and full of questions he drags himself back to his buddy's apartment to find out what the hell in going on,long story short he finds out he's basiclly the modern day version of a vampire, with no real life left to live he and his slacker friend go on a vigilanty crusade taking down all the local drug dealers and in genral bad guys they come accross.the acting is good, not a lot of emotional moving moments in it so don't expect oscar preformances, the effects were pretty good, some of the effects were suprising for the way the film led up to the, almost like they were hiding them or waiting for the right scene to use them, either way they were good.
the music was barely noticable if there was even any at all it didn't factor into my opinion of the movie.
3/5 overall a good horror/action flick, worth a rent if your into dark films that have gore and gunfights, also the loosely based vampire thing too but not so much if your a traditional vampire fan.

Iron sky
this story has to be one of the most original if not the most original ideas put into a film.after the world war ended and hitler's army fell a large number of the nazi followers feld...to the dark side of the moon!! building a massive war machne and training their army's under hitler's agenda (while he himself was long dead) they prepared for the final war on earth, a war to "clense all the sub-human's" from existance.40 years later a couple of U.S. astronauts find this massive natzi moon base, fearing an invation is upon them the natzi's start their plans for total takeover.
just seeing the trailer for this one i knew it was going to be good, the whole idea that the natzi's escaped to the moon after the war and secretly plan revenge on the US is insane, acting wise the film is good, the lead roles are solid, the guy playing washington is funny as hell, the lead natzi is really convincing and the rest of the cast seems almost spoof like to be taken seriously (they had good preformances but the parts just seemd so nutty i found it had to take some of them seriously). the effect are amazing, not avatar or T2 great but for the budget and genre (action/comedy) it was great, seeing the natzi symbol in the form of a moon base was epic and not something i think ill ever see again.
the score was good,it felt like they made a good attempt at putting a score that gave you some sort of emotion to go along with what was happening,it was good.
3.75/5 a fun story that really gets the "what if" part right, rent this one if you enjoy sci-fi flicks or really really out there films that tip the weird scale.

solomon kane
watched this one the other day from xbox video, it was like 760msp a month back they just lowered it to the usual rent (360msp so i rented it).
this one comes from the guy that brought you conan the barbarian so it has a little bit of the older epic feel in some scenes like a scene shot with solomon taking a journey home it just reminded me of the scenes they used to have in older action/dramas that you just don't see much of anymore.
solomon kane is a pretty straight foward film, a man who is possably one of the most feared/hated killers in the world (solomon) comes to the end of his evil ways when he runs into an agent/minion of the devil who tells him his soul is damned and he must forfit it,needless to say he tells the demon off and flees to a convent where he hide from the devil taking a vow to never fight again.
the preist tells solomon he must leave since he feels a dark presance closing over the convent, reluctantly solomon leaves and finds his vow in jepordy when a dark force starts to overtake the land and even the castle he grew up in.
the lead(solomon) was great as the reluctant hero and much like the conan series the supporting cast builds on, not to say the support wasn't great since they kinda tie the main hero to the story and add on it but the title says it all.they must have put a good amount of cash into the effect, while it's not near the lotr series it's still really good for a solo (possablly series) flim, there were no cheesy effects everything did look right on.
the score was great, i really love action/dramas that use the score to get you into a movie and this is one that understands you need a great score to do this.
4/5
solomon kane is a great action/drama with a throwback feel that should feel right at home with the 80's action/fantasy lovers, even if you not a huge fan of fantasy/rpg films you should check this one out you might walk away with a new fav genre.
X 2-7-13

the avengers
finally rented this one last night, truth be told im kinda ashamed to say im a fanboy since this movie was pretty much the biggest marvel flick EVER.
bear with me cuz this review is going to be really really long!!
looking at the final product you might never guess that marvel has been leading into this film for almost a decade, the solo films since iron man have led up to this wth small plot tie-ins to the avengers film, the huge plan marvel has is to make 1 huge universe that connects all their heros the same way their comic world does, giving each hero their own franchise & back story/ origin so when they meet in this film it not only made sense but worked out smoothly(check out the marvel thread if you want to know more about their plans for future films and what not).
wow, with that said the avengers story is focused on loki (thors brother) and his plans to take over the world using the tesseract (cube of engery with unlimited power) and an evil army summoned therough a portal he plan's to open with the tesseract, along with the very rocky beginings of the avengers squad. the story is good, whedon does write great stuff for marvel (writer/director),just seeing the avengers on screen was amazing but to already have a solid backstory in the form of solo films for each hero was epic imo it was like seeing a super band in rock&roll form, there were some slow points in the film but not enough to even bother complaining about since just about every "slow point" had a number of the heros in it or some awesome fangasim (fan+orgasim) of jucy comic lore. when the action starts up it's almost overwhelming, seeing the 6 heros fighting eachother/enemys is almost enought to make you feel like a little kid again undispudedly the best action in any of the marvel movies bar non (IMO)
i feel kind silly even mentioning the acting since almost every actor in the film has already been seen in the role they play in the avengers via a previous film, the only exceptions were the hulk's actor and the increased screen time of the actor&actress that played hawkey & black widow and they offered a great look into the heros respectively.
again i feel almost like this goes without saying the score/effects in the avengers were absolutely amazing.
5/5]
this is the best marvel film they have ever made, not co-produced or under another studios label such as spiderman (sony) or x-men (fox) but marvel studios inc. and should be a no brainer for comic fans to add to their library asap, as for the rest of the world they shouldn't hesitate to pick this one up at their local video store or on the marketplace it delivers more than the cost of a rent.
(keep watching the creds at the end to see a teaser of the sequel which is set for a 2015 release)
X 2-9-13

silent hill revelations
after some debate i jumped into this one. i liked the other silent hill movie, not a huge fan but i liked it, going into this one i knew almost nothing about the story, the movie played out much like the game (silent hill 3) the almost mirror image format of the game kinda put me off, i don't tend to enjoy game based films that tend to get their entire script from the game they are portraying.
sumed up silent hill revalations is almost a carbon copy of silent hill 3 story wise, if you haven't played the game then here it is,heather the baby girl from the 2nd game given to henry to care for (after he beats their cult's god) has grown up, 17 years later she is starting to see strange things and feel like she's being drawn to the mysterous silent hill...
Spoiler: Click here to toggle spoiler

she finds out the cult wants to use her to give birth to their god, sorry i kinda felt like that was giving the story away.

.
it felt rushed, the begining to end was so quick that you could miss why and when if you got up for a min,the story felt like a compacted version of sh3 and no real connection with the charcters was established.
the effects were good, i liked the fact that they included way more silent hill creatures in this one than they did in the first film, there was way more action and quicker paced scenes also. the acting, effects & score were all good but as mentioned before the compacted feel and rush to the end issues kinda killed it for me.
2.5/5
rather dissapointing, unless your a super fanboy of the silent hill series/franchise then i would advise against wasting cash on a rent, wait untill this one is on netflix instant or another free movie channel.
X 3/5/13

sinister
finally got around to catching this one a couple of days ago on xbl video, when the preview hit xbl video i knew it was going to be a no brainer, the feel the visuals and the genre all fit my tase rather well.
sinster is about a man who writes crime novel/factual books about murders/crimes that have happened in the past, he sheds light on some things the police may have overlooked or missed while putting his own opinion in there, anyhow, he and his family move into the house of a brutal famliy killing (the subject of his current novel), he start's to find connections between the murdered family he is writing about and a number of other famliy's that were murdered with the same image and creepy looking person in all the pictures/film he watches.
imo this was a great film, the spped of the film was good, everything felt about right in terms of how/when they presented it, the acting was great, i like to see actors that are known for other genres pop into the horror/thriller scene for a bit.
the score was great, they use the dramatic jump stuff to scare the crap out of you more than once, the story was fantastic, i really liked the end and how they tied the whole film up but left room for a sequel.
suprisingly they didn't use much visual effects in the film as is the case with most horror films nowadays.
4/5
this one is a great late night horror movie when you relaxing by yourself or with a friend, a great story cast and scares almost urges me to reccomend this one, as above this one is not really a gore fest or a party horror flick, rent this one if your by yourself or like horror films made for adults.
x 3-6-13

Iron man 3
Finally got around to renting this one on my bday last week, went into it expecting to see pretty much the same action as the 2nd film in the series and ended up feeling a little underwhelmed.
The story plot picks up after the avengers film ends, a new villain pops up out of the woodworks.....the manderin (Kingsley), who's image is basically the typical terrorist, threats are made and a new bioengineered weapon/enhancement dubbed the "extremis" pulls stark into the fight when his friend and former bodyguard "happy" ends up collateral damage and is hospitalised.
Personally I felt the story was a bit weak compared to the other films, the twist with the manderin near the end was a HUGE deflation of the drama built up most of the film, the extremis portion of the story was solid but kinda short, with about half as much action as iron man 2 this one just didn't grab my attention.
As usual the fx and score were top notch, the acting was on par with the rest of the series with the leader/CEO of A.I.M. being a great addition to the cast.
3/5
Overall a good action movie, not really important in the grand scheme of Marvel's universe but still a good addition to the franchise, personally wished the did a little more in terms of story and action to advance/add to the universe.
Its a renter, if your a marvel fan then you probably have this one already, either way its a good action flick.

The wolverine
Ahhhh, the long awaited return of my personal favorite marvel franchise.
My love for the x men universe is severely tested by fox sometimes, I feel like a closet drug abuser or a skinny chick sneaking sweets in the bathroom every time I watch a fox made xmen flick, I'm biased and this review will show that so you've been warned, anyways, the wolverine.
This entry in the wolverine solo franchise takes our clawed hero to Japan, back to the town he served in during the world war.
The man he saved then sends for him on his deathbed, offering Logan the chance to be rid of his mutant ability (insane healing factor) and live the rest of his life like anyone else (simply put, his mutant healing ability is so fast he doesn't age much,I'm sure he's at least 80+ yreas old in the movies) as a "gift" for saving his life.
I could complane and whine that the story was slow and they wernt connecting or even making sense sometimes but I won't, the wolverine is a good dramatic entry in the series, action scenes are great, huge knocks the role out of the park as usual and fox even managed to take a hint from marvel's in house movies and tied the film in to the next x men movie (days of futures past) with a post credit scene
Spoiler: Click here to toggle spoiler

a few years after the events in the movie Logan is at an airport and has a run in with magneto, surprised he's even more shocked to see everyone frozen in time, around the corner rolls professor x,setting up the dofp by saying "we need your help, something is coming that could wipe us all out"

4/5
Great drama/action movie, if your looking for a good way to kill 2 hours you'll never go wrong with marvel films and the men.

your next
A family get together turns into a fight for survival as the family dinner gets interrupted by a shocking attack, panic ensues and the whole house is locked in a cat & mouse game that will keep you on e edge of your seat.
Ahh the home invasion genre, it always feels like I'm watching a hardcore home alone film, anyways, this ones pretty good for what it is, the cast is good but only a few really stick out, the usual home invasion evens happen, cringe when the cast gets picked off one by one, exctiment as the hero/heroine take one down.
The score, picture and storyline are all solid, the lead actress is really good, really liked the intense scenes with her and the intruders.
3/5
Solid home invasion film, worth a rent, reccomended to fans of the saw series and films like the strangers and scream.
X 6-14-14

man of steel
Being a huge marvel fan I rarely see many DC movies, that said,I enjoyed this one, the origin back story was well done, the real life gritty feel was great (Nolan directed so it kinda felt gritty in the same sense that the dark knight series felt).
The cast was pretty much all a listers, from crowe to Costner, amazing acting all around, the score and effects were great, visually the best DC film in a LONG time, the few nitpicks I had with the film were small, the use of CGI was a no brainer due to Superman's power and flight but they kinda made the film a bit wacky during fight scenes, that and I'm not a huge sci-fi fan (alien tec, spaceships and laser guns) so the planet kripton back story and fight scenes were a meh for me.
4/5
A great reboot,all-star cast,visually amazing.
The man of steel delivers to comic and action fans alike, deep dramatic scenes and over the top action will surely have fanboys drooling.recommended for fans of high budget action films and comic heroes. X 7-19-14

smiley
An urban legend horror flick, the tale goes like this: randomly joining video chats online, some can kill the person they are in chat with by typing "I did it for the lulz" 3 times and the supernatural "smiley" killer would appear behind the victim and kill them....
Bland, run of the mill horror film, the urban legend tag loosely applys here, the killer smiley is basicly the anchor for the whole film, the rest is typical teens running around, screaming, pointing fingers and dropping dead left and right. Score, visuals and acting were about what you'd expect from a teen slasher.
1/5
Skip this slasher, bland acting, sub par story and a forgettable killer rank smiley near the worst horror films in recent memory.
Avoid this one unless its free, even then you've been warned.

The conjuring
A family moves into a new farm house in the countryside, unbeknownst to them the land was home to an extremely powerful devil worshiping witch who curse the land and all that try to take it.
Didn't think too much about this one going in,heard a bunch of great reviews but had my doubts, ten mins in I was sold, wow, really creepy, nerve racking thrill ride.
The score and visuals were great, the setting was perfect, really like the pacing and quite build up of each dramatic jump.
5/5
As a horror fan and movie lover I can reccomend this film enough, just a really great, edge of your seat(or under the blanket) horror movie.
Must see if your a fan of haunting or possession films.

The purge:anarchy
The sequel to the highly liked and watched home invasion title "the purge".
I could say I like home invasion as a sub genre or horror, its a tense, gritty and nervewracking thrill ride, without going on and on about that, the purge anarchy is NOT another home invasion title,to bring you up to speed on the story behind the whole purge I'll take a min and explains the idea to both films.

The year is 2022 and a new form of elected government has been elected and has decided to change the laws of the united states for 12 hours on the same day every year, the new laws allow any one to do anything they want and allow access to firearms and explosives of certain levels for the duration, only high level and select government officials are granted immunity on purge day,the idea behind the whole purge day is to lower yearly crime and cleanse the u.s. of the poorer levels of the tax bracket.

This one was pretty close to an action film, the tension, edge of your seat drama is Alost gone in this one, lots of gun fights, running and gore galore.
I like where they are trying to take this franchise but IMO,they really shouldn't stray from the more intimate settings, the first films strength was the fact it was a single home/familys perspective during the purge, anarchy isn't a complete loss, I liked the action sequences, the tense fights where your not sure if somones going to die or barely escape with their life, and the constant wonder of is someone just gonna kill that guy since murder is legal?
3/5
The purge takes to the streets and give you a more action packed adventure than before, this one's for the horror fan who likes some action mixed in with their gore, worth a rent.
